I live my life my way
Christopher, I've been wondering about that for the last 20 years. The basics of good manners seems to have eluded half the population in my area.(Upstate NY) Holding a door for someone or saying thank you if that favor is extended to you doesn't even rate a smile-let alone a verbal thanks.
My pet peeve is the absence of a thank you when your spending money in a store. That is the FIRST thing a clerk should be taught.IMO The other day I drop coins & little kid about 7 picked them up for me. I made a point of my thanks & also to tell his Mom. She beamed with pride. It all begins in the home.
Happy Ms, there are a fair number of good mannered people where I live in Ireland.
I suppose the size of the population in the area may make a difference. Everybody tends to know everyone in rural country towns ... at least that's the way it appears ... and not only their parents but the schools too seem to teach the kids some manners and a little bit of respect for other people.
Christopher, You're right-I never met anyone in Ireland who was rude. Though I did meet a thief. She was coming out of my room with my make-up bag & my cookies. I tackled her!! (Just kidding)
