The Campaign to Free the Old Head of Kinsale, one of Ireland's best-known headlands and a place of great historic, environmental and archeological importance, started in 1997 when the Old Head Golf Club opened. Thanks to a loophole in Ireland's planning laws the Club's developers, Ashbourne Holdings, were able to close public access to the headland by erecting heavy gates, razor wire and employing security guards. Access to the Old Head of Kinsale had been enjoyed for centuries by locals and vistors to the area. http://chawv.tripod.com/kinsale

Under Irish law the Head of Kinsale is a bird sanctuary which has a one Km flight exclusion area but the club has a helipad so that its wealthy members can be ferried from Cork Airport.
